This 100-year-old School Closed Decades Ago, Now It's Bringing People Together

We interviewed Matthew and Melissa DeOrazio to learn about the Village School's history and what the future of the school holds.

The Village School in Sheffield, AL was built in 1918 as a part of "Nitrate City," created for workers during World War I. When the war ended, the school became a Sheffield City School until it closed 1993 being left vacant for almost 25 years. In 2018, The Village School Foundation was created to restore the old school to be used as a community space for events and gatherings.
