RISE ABOVE Tour

  • Million Air Birmingham 4725 65th Place North Birmingham, AL, 35206 United States (map)

One of CAF’s eighty squadrons, RISE ABOVE (formally known as the Red Tail Squadron), tells the story of the Tuskegee Airman, their successes, the obstacles they faced, and the timeless lessons they teach us about perseverance and courage. The CAF Rise Above Tour consists of a fully restored WWII-era P-51C Mustang, the signature aircraft of the Tuskegee Airmen, and the Rise Above Traveling Exhibit - a 53’ mobile movie theater featuring the compelling original short RISE ABOVE film that tells the story of the Tuskegee Airmen.

In addition, the Birmingham Rise Above Tour will feature a Fairchild PT-19, a fully restored WWII aircraft, which were used in Tuskegee to teach new pilot recruits to fly. This aircraft (named” Jany”) is based in Birmingham and operated by the Birmingham Escadrille, a CAF Squadron that takes its name from the first Alabama Air National Guard unit formed in Birmingham in 1922. The tour will be open to the public May 22-26, from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm each day. Admission is free. Location is: Million Air Birmingham, 4725 65th Place, Birmingham, AL 35206
